A leading abolitionist and women's rights activist, Frederick Douglass was an inspiration to us all. Douglass escaped to Massachusetts in 1838 to fight for freedom, with pride and determination to do so. As a former slave, Frederick Douglass had experience what it felt to be torn apart from family, to be forced into labor and given no sense of gratitude, to be noticed as nothing more than property. He made it his life's goal to free millions of others in servitude.
